    The first Medical Camp

Esperanza Global, in collaboration with BCS Kataria Foundation, organized a remarkable event that had a significant impact on the lives of the Safai Sathis, the dedicated waste management workers in India. This event was a free medical screening camp held on April 15, 2023, in the village of Maloya, Chandigarh.

The organization of the medical camp faced its fair share of challenges, but with perseverance and determination, a team of specialized doctors in Dermatology, Pulmonology, General Medicine, Eye Care and Dental services was successfully assembled. These medical professionals dedicated their expertise and time to providing much-needed healthcare services to the Safai Sathis.

Approximately 250 individuals had the opportunity to receive medical attention at the camp. The conditions addressed included skin rashes, eczema, joint pain, dental cavities, and asthma. The impact of this initiative cannot be overstated, as it positively affected the well-being of the Safai Sathis, who play a crucial role in waste management and keeping our communities clean.

Throughout the course of the camp, invaluable lessons were learned, providing valuable insights for future endeavors. Among the key takeaways were the importance of extensive promotion to ensure maximum participation, allowing sufficient notice period for effective organization and marketing, providing complimentary community meals to encourage the Safai Sathis to undergo check-ups, securing larger and more accessible locations to manage the influx of attendees, and enhancing overall event management.

With the dedicated support of Plastiks' innovative tools and its marketplace, a large consumer company, Rosita, was able to finance this successful collaboration, paving the way for future medical camps. This financial backing enabled Esperanza Global and BCS Kataria Foundation to continue making a difference in the lives of the Safai Sathis and other underserved communities. The experience gained from this event will serve as a valuable guide in planning and executing future initiatives, ensuring an even greater impact in the years to come."

Recognizing the importance of their contribution to society and the risks associated with their work, Esperanza Global has decided to take a step towards their betterment. The company plans to organize monthly medical health camps specifically for the waste picking community. These health camps will provide a wide range of medical services such as full-body check-ups, medical advice, and the provision of necessary medicines. In addition to medical support, the health camps will also raise awareness among the waste pickers about the importance of handling waste safely and taking protective measures to prevent injuries and infections. The waste picker community is particularly susceptible to respiratory diseases like tuberculosis and other ailments like nausea, vomiting, and headaches. Therefore, the medical health camps will address these concerns and provide the necessary treatment. Esperanza Global is committed to securing funding to ensure the success of this initiative. By doing so, the company aims to improve the overall health and wellbeing of the waste picker community, whose contribution to society often goes unnoticed. In summary, Esperanza Global’s initiative to organize monthly medical health camps for the waste picker community is a noble effort aimed at providing them with much-needed medical assistance and raising awareness about the importance of safe waste handling practices. With sufficient support and funding, this initiative has the potential to make a significant impact on the lives of the waste picker community.
